Master Shimabuku Sends His Regrets and Encouragement
June 9, 2009
As we count down to the IWKA Championship and attend to many details, Master
Shimabuku this past week has expressed concerns about the N1H1 (swine) flu
problems in the area. He had planned to bring his wife with him on this trip
and was understandably concerned about his wife’s welfare given the stress
of a long flight and the air quality in cramped passenger cabins.
In a Fax sent by Master Shimabuku he wrote, “Sorry we cannot attend the 2009
IWKA Isshinryu World Karate Championships in June in the USA. I know that in
Mexico and USA it is a NEW INFLUENZA PROBLEM.”
When I called him, he repeated his regrets to me. He further expressed his
desire to be kept informed of our activities associated with the World
Championships.
We know that with so many friends, students, and traditions involved, this
had to be a difficult decision. However we must respect his desire not to
put his family in jeopardy.
Respectfully,
Hanshi Duessel
